New Blog

Hey, forgot to tell everyone following this blog that I now have a new and awesome blog at www.ladyknitster.com I know, I know...it looks like the same address but it's different. I now have my own domain and blog site and all my former blog posts here have been moved to my new blog. Also don't forget to update your bookmarks and your RSS feeds and subscriptions.

Hope to see you commenting on my new ladyknitster. I'm working on my new quilt from quilting class (which I love) and will be posting pics this weekend to show my progress. Also have one baby sweater done sans buttons and another baby sweater done without sleeves. I've been down the sleeves road before and had to knit on the last sleeve the week before Christmas....yikes...Buttons sewn on the ribbing on Christmas morning. It was a gift for my great niece. She looked adorable in it.

Anyway, that's the news from this side of town. Hope to see you comments...

End of April

Can't believe it's the end of April. So anxious for warm weather to plant my veggie garden. It's all prepped and ready for the plants. The garden looks lonely, with just a few rows of lettuce and lots of dirt. Went to Masters Gardeners event in town on Saturday and saw all these incredibly healthy, beautiful tomato and pepper plants. I wanted to buy all of them. But have to wait a few weeks until the ground warms up and frost warnings are over.

Have been doing some knitting and sewing but not as much as I'd like. Still working on baby sweaters and some sewing projects. I start my new quilting class next Tuesday which I'm so excited about. I've made quilts for family and babies but I really want to learn all the tricks of quilting. The real deal!

Having book club girls here tonight for our monthly meeting. We read "The Help" which was a terrific novel and would recommend it. So off I go to start cooking my "famous" beef barley stew/soup which everyone asks for.

A beautiful morning

Went for a walk this morning in the misty overcast. Along the way, the sun broke thru the clouds and warmed everything around me. The battery in my IPod died just about the same time that I met an elderly lady named Libby who was also out walking. She moved over on the sidewalk for me to pass and for some reason I just stopped to talk with her. We ended up walking and talking for about 2.5 miles. It was great. Never met her before but she doesn't live far from me. We talked like we were everyday friends. She was athletic and loved the outdoors. Found a penny on the road and gave it to her. Told her when you find a penny you give it away for luck. Before we split for home, she said she hopes we meet up again. How sweet...what a wonderful morning it is!

This is the beautiful home, "The Cape Cod", that we stayed in Gold Beach, Oregon. The tree in the foreground is called a Monkey Tree. It is incredible to see in person.

Coast Trip 2010

Our ladies bible study took our annual trip to the Southern Oregon Coast in Gold Beach at Ireland's Rustic Lodge this weekend. Once again we stayed in the 120 yr. old two story home with history to match its age. Full kitchen, four bedrooms, living room with a great fireplace and insert, all situated on the Pacific Ocean.

We had an great adventure including 50-60 MPH winds that rocked the house and the entire South Coast all day Sunday. Walking down to the water with powerful winds blasting you and watching the disappearing beach line was exciting. The power of the water took your breath away. Took many pictures of "lot of waves"; each one different of course! The power went out on the whole South Coast of Oregon at 2PM on Sunday and didn't come back on until 10PM.

But we knitted, crocheted and embroidered until we couldn't see anymore. Had to watch out for those needles in the dark! Ouch!!!!

When true darkness closed in, we played games. The Memory game was fun...A to Z adding a new word using the next letter in the alphabet and having to repeat them all until the letter Z. Sunday evening was brought to you by the letters A thru Z! Our "Over 50s" ladies did great...our memories are still intact.

We sat in the dark sharing stories while the soft glow of three candles added ambiance to the living room and the fireplace kept us warm. We cooked soup from the previous night's dinner and lunch leftovers on the top of the wood stove. A bit pot held hot water for tea and cocoa.

With their candle light fading quickly, the power came back on! We enjoyed the peace and quiet of the darkness and the bonding time of our little group. It was a wonderful experience to spend time with good friends on such a unique trip.

Happy New Year 2010

I want to wish everyone a Happy 2010! Hope this new year brings much joy and blessings to everyone.

I had a busy crafting year in 2009. I've added pictures of most of these projects: gloves, hats, doilies, coasters, an angelic sweater for Baby Bailey. With the news of another great niece or nephew coming this year, I'm sure auntie will be busy once again sewing and knitting! Lots to make for all of them this year. Keeps me out of trouble! Just keep me away from the yarn and needle department!

I'd love to hear your comments from time to time.

Hugs, Diana aka ladyknitster

Coasters 2009

Here are the coaster sets that I made for gifts this Christmas. I made four in each set which is great for those icy, drippy glasses to catch the water and save your end tables from water stains. They are 100% cotton and washable.
